My husband and I love going to St. George, Utah. It is sun year round and a great escape especially during the winter months. There is a ton of good spots to hike and enjoy the outdoors there. Some of our favorite food spots are there and it's overall a cute little city. Here are our favorite things we like to do in St. George, Utah.
Snow Canyon
We have hiked up and down Snow Canyon a few times and we love it every time. It is cheaper for a Utah resident but not expensive at all to enter the park either way. We have always gone earlier in the morning to hike which has worked out good for beating the heat. The trails are mostly marked but there are a few spots that you can just wander around and eventually get back on the trails. The Red Sands trail is a tough one but so rewarding when you make it to the end of the trail sign. These hikes aren’t shaded hardly at all so be prepared with lots of water and a hat if possible. The lava shoots are so cool to go and see and there are some signs that explains more about it so it"s super interesting. We even just enjoyed going and walking through the sand dunes trail which is just a little area full of red sand.
Red Hills Desert Garden and Pioneer Park
This is the best find ever. It has an option to hike rocks and climb all over them on one side and then a cute little desert garden on the other so you can take your pick. The lookout points are beautiful you can see the whole city of St. George. The gardens are pretty to walk through and learn about different types of desert plants or you can sit and swing and have a good chat. We usually grab a smoothie and go sit on the swings for a nice relaxing time. We also got up at sunset one morning and hiked the overlook above the gardens which was beautiful. There is plenty of parking and lots of options in this one spot.
25five Main
This is the cutest café on main street. It is decorated cute and has local artwork for sale on their walls as décor. So clever. We have tried pretty much all options. Their paninis are good, their salads are our favorites and we love their acai bowls. Of course, you can't go there without getting a cupcake. We will buy six and eat them throughout our stay in St. George. It is a little bit pricey here but so worth it for the environment of the cafe and the food is yummy.
Sand Hollow
We rented a UTV from the Beach at Sand Hollow. The only regret I had was not bringing sun glasses but we totally could have bought some at their little store. That trip was a blast. We went out riding for two hours which was plenty of time. We even saw the top of the world aka a sign that said top of the world on a little sand hill. There was a lot of paths you could take and we felt comfortable since they had a gps app on our phone showing us where we were and the map of the park. They also did a good job of showing us how to drive the UTV and explaining some things we would see and want to avoid while out driving. We put our feet in the lake and basked in the sun for a bit after our ride. We want to go back and rent some water stuff next time!
What a delicious ice cream cone! We stopped in after we had hiked a few miles in Snow Canyon so it was a much-needed cold treat and we loved it so much we have added it to our must stop every time list along with 25th on main. There are a lot of flavors of homemade ice cream you can choose from. I have tried their chocolate peanut butter brownie and their praline pecan flavor and my husband really likes their strawberry one.
I know it's under construction right now but even that makes it interesting to go and see. We have seen it both in operation and now in construction and it is just as pretty. When it is back up and running the temple grounds are so peaceful and it is lit up all at night making it a fun place to visit. They have all of the historical homes you can go visit as well. I haven’t been to them yet with my husband but I have gone a few times when I was little. The tabernacle is a neat place to see in downtown as well.
Tropical Smoothie
This is a must on a hot day. We like to grab a smoothie and go sit on the swings at the Gardens or after a hike headed back to the hotel. They have a lot of good flavors! We have tried a few of them and they have all been good!
Red Cliffs Mall
We like to look around the mall and even the outlet stores around the corner from the mall. I have found the best deals on sandals at 39 & Main Shoes. We also love the Barnes and Noble at this location. I don’t think they do anything different than any other store but for some reason we love this one!
This is the cutest place. You can get a waffle cone that looks like a taco filled with rolled up ice cream. I tried a bananas dulce seasonal flavor and my husband had their strawberry cheesecake. The ice cream was so creamy and had fun toppings and of course a yummy waffle cone. It was a cute place for a picture and yummy to eat so best of both worlds. It did have a little bit of a wait since it was a hot day and everyone wanted something to help keep them cool but it was worth the wait.
We usually would go to the Redcliff's restaurant to see this view, but we found that you can park in the open parking on the south side of the restaurant to see it for free! We didn’t have the greatest dining experience the last time we went so I don’t necessarily recommend the actual restaurant but the view is beautiful at night. We sat and looked at the glowing city and had a good chat which has been one of my favorite memories.
This was our favorite place we have stayed at in St. George. We have tried a few of the hotels which have been fine but this will be our go to from now on. It is a little condo resort that had a jetted tub, a full kitchen, fire place in both the room and front room and a great view of a pond and the mountains in the back yard that you could see from inside of the condo because it was all glass windows. Oh, and it even had a garage and front porch with a table to sit at. There were a few walking trails, a golf course and a club house close by. It is close to Snow Canyon and not too far from downtown.
One of our favorite breakfast spots was First Watch. Yes, there was a line but it was worth the wait. I got a waffle with eggs and bacon and Greg got their potatoes, eggs, bacon and toast plate and an acai bowl to go. Their potatoes were so yummy I had instantly regretted not getting my own. We will definitely be going back!
This was a cute old time country store. They had old fashioned sodas in glass bottles, candies and ice cream. It’s just a little store so maybe get your ice cream to go and take a walk around but we did get a table that we sat at to enjoy the air conditioning. The ice cream wasn’t anything too different than other hard scooped ice creams but it was just cute to be in the old store environment and of course to get a Big Red soda which is our favorite.
We stayed in St. George and just went for a few hours in Zion National Park which worked out perfectly. We hiked the Emerald pools and drove through the park. It was a nice drive and so neat to see. It was a little busy on the trail but everyone moved at a good pace and were respectful of others. We would love to go back and try more hikes but for that day it was just what we needed.
Vegas is about an hour and forty-five minute drive from St. George. We just drove up for the day before we headed back to Salt Lake. We walked the strip and tried the Eiffel Tower Restaurant which was super fancy and gave us a good laugh. We are not those kinds of people who eat little pea pudding things and eat properly so it was pretty awkward but we had a good time. We also went to the Las Vegas outlets which was pretty standard for an outlet mall.
Let me know what you like to do in St. George as well!
