Greg and I met while working at a sandwich shop together around July 2015. He was my manager and was training me to become a manager as well. We worked a lot of the same shifts and talked the whole time! We started hanging out and became official on my 22nd Birthday in September. Our first date was hiking Ensign peak and our second was visiting the Salt Flats.
When Greg proposed he had asked me out on a date to Ensign Peak and then drove me to the Salt Flats which was our first two "hangout" dates. He wrote me a song asking me to be his queen for all eternity and to marry him. Sweetest boy ever! We got engaged in April and were married in June. We originally had August planned but Greg’s housing fell through so we got a place together in June and decided to get married before living together! My mom and her friend planned the whole thing in only three days... And it was beautiful!
Luckily, I had found my wedding dress a few weeks before which was a miracle. My little sister went to a neighbor's house who had a dress shop, looking for a prom dress. While we were there the neighbor pulled out the wedding dress and asked me to try it on. I instantly fell in love and bought it that day! Greg went tux shopping Friday night. Yikes we were cutting it very close on that one! We even went and bought Greg's ring in that time frame.
I had our engagements scheduled for June 4 and just asked to swap it for the actual ceremony and wedding pics. Our photographer even filmed a first look for us. Since we were getting our pictures done we already had an order for our flowers too. It worked out perfectly! Everything fell into place. We didn’t invite more than a handful of people so it was small and intimate.

The day of our wedding my little brother got baptized in the morning and then we ran around with our heads cut off the rest of the day before the ceremony. My sister and I went and got our nails done and got ready while my mom was decorating the backyard for the ceremony. I have to shout out my mom right now because she took this on like it was her mission to make the best wedding possible. Mind you she just through a baptism party that morning and wedding by that night. She worked so hard. They set up the cutest set up in the backyard.
Greg went to our new house to get ready and I headed to my parents house to get ready. My sisters and mom helped me get my makeup and hair done. They even put deodorant on for me since I’d already gotten into my dress. My little brother carried the back of my dress for me out to the car. He did that for my older sister too when she got married. Cutest thing ever!
After the ceremony we talked with our friends and family and took pictures. My mom and her friend had a cake made for us which was a surprise. After saying our goodbyes we headed out to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner. We went in our wedding clothes which was so much fun! We walked around City Creek for a bit and headed home to our new place!
We didn’t do a reception or honeymoon until August which was our original date. Honestly if I had to go back, I would have skipped the two months later reception and just sent out announcements of our wedding. We still had the reception and it turned out great but just looking back it felt a little silly to throw a party so late afterwards. Our guests were so kind about it though and made it a fun night. I had my best friend, cousin and my two sisters as my bridesmaids.
We just used the church gym and decorated it with our colors which were purple, black and silver/white. We had lights and pictures and cute tissue paper flowers. The food was a parfait bar and cookies and a popcorn bar for the take home gifts. My husband made the song playlist and we just visited for a few hours.
We had our first dance. and then our daddy daughter dance which we choreographed a dance to. Our first song was “The Closer I Get to You” by Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway. My aunt and cousins made our cake and we got to cut into that. We were nice to one another when we fed it to each other. We left with sparklers and drove away in a decorated car!
We went to the Gardens at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building for dinner. When we were about to leave a family next to us asked to pay our bill to say congratulations! People are so very kind!!! That touched my heart so much. We walked around the area and headed back to a staycation honeymoon for the rest of the weekend!
For our staycation honeymoon we went to Boondocks and played there for quite a while. We had my parents come over to open gifts and we took them out to dinner. We were spoiled for our wedding! The gift opening was so much fun and really got us all set for our new house. A few weeks later I had three different bridal showers which was so kind of everyone. We felt very loved and supported.
Our wedding was perfect for getting put together so fast I still wouldn't have changed the actual day one bit. I got to marry my best friend and that is all that matters. We have learned a lot now that it has been five years later. Marriage is hard but so worth it. My favorite advice we got from my Aunt was that she hoped for us to have enough trials in our marriage to make us stronger together. I have seen that every hard time has drawn us closer to the Lord and to each other.
Also, Thanks to our awesome photographer Luke Porter Films for our actual wedding day photos and to Jenica Barney for our reception photos!
