During the pandemic we had our four year wedding anniversary. We usually like to travel but because of the circumstances we felt like it wasn't a good idea at the time. I had to get creative to make the day special and it ended up being so good.
An at home hotel.
My husband worked during that day so I was able to set it all up before he got home. I had a sign saying the "King Hotel," balloons, towels rolled up, treats on the pillows and a schedule of what the "hotel" offered. It came with continental breakfast, spa services and a movie. He laughed but enjoyed the day of hotel living.
We picked up take out and ate dinner, looked at our weddings pictures and the last four years, we did face masks, massages and watched a movie. It really was so fun.
How to:
Decorate how ever you'd like. I got balloons from Zurcher's. I put white lights up on the headboard. I had jazz music playing in the background. I just used our little coffee table tray as part of the décor on the bed. I had pillow cases made that had our favorite love saying on them which was his gift this year. Pictures would of been cute to have printed and displayed as well.
For the spa part, I had towels rolled up on the bed but robes would be a cute idea. I bought a couple of new face masks and some massage oil that I put with the towels. You could do any pampering thing like a pedicure, manicure, massages and even a bath. We love face masks so that is our go-to when we do a spa type date.
I put treats on the pillows like an old school hotel. We like our chocolate options but anything would do. It was fun to have a little extra treat while we watched a movie and for dessert.
Get take out for dinner. We had Cheesecake Factory on our wedding night so we got take out for our anniversary too. It was fun to remember what we did on our actual wedding day. You totally could set up a fancy table and cook a home meal too but for us our treat is take out. We also just ate in bed but a cute table would of been fun too.
Get your favorite drinks. My husband loves Big Red and Al81 sodas but they are hard to find here in Utah. I was able to get my hands on an Al81 which is in a cute bottle. I also made sure to get orange juice for the morning as well. Any drinks you like would do. You could have fancy glasses set out or just a plain old can of soda too.
Watch a movie in bed. We don't have a T.V. in our bedroom so we just used our laptop. We watched our wedding video as well as one of our favorite movies. You could set up a fort in the front room with your T.V. which would be super cute too. We have done forts before and loved them. You could play games, go for a walk around the neighborhood, make dinner or a dessert together or any activity you would like. Just do something together.
Continental breakfast is the best part of a hotel. I had bacon, eggs and cinnamon rolls ready to make for the next morning. You could go out to eat for breakfast or have a buffet style of food like yogurts, cereal and fruit. We like hot breakfast so that is what I did but anything works. It just makes it fun to continue into the next day of something out of the ordinary.
Your at home hotel can be extravagant or just slightly something out of the normal, it's up to you! In the end just have fun with it and make a memorable date with your spouse.
What ideas do you have for a fun date night?
