My husband and I flew to Seattle on a Friday afternoon and got back to Utah on that Sunday night. We were there for three days and had it packed full of fun activities and food. The city is beautiful and pretty easy to get around. Here are the fun things we got to do while we were there visiting.
Day 1:
Dicks Hamburgers: This is a famous burger spot in Seattle where you just walk up to the window to order. Their menu is small and no substitutions, but so good. I got the single patty with lettuce, pickles and mayo. My husband doesn't like mayo, but they don't do substitutions so he tried it and really liked it. The fries are like homemade fries which were yummy. They are open until 2 in the morning which is so fun!
University of Washington: We drove through the University of Washington campus which is beautiful and so big! There are so many buildings, grounds, spots to shop, and eat at. The grounds have trees that are huge, lots of grassy areas, a water fountain, and old and new buildings. I really liked driving through the U Village where all the food spots are. They have string lights lighting up the whole street so at night it is really pretty. There is a little shopping center close by with Lululemon, R&H housing décor store, and lots of food options.
Salt & Straw: Seattle has a few ice cream spots they are known for. We went to Salt & Straw since we know we love it there from Oregon. Sadly, the one my husband likes isn't there anymore so it was a bit of a bummer for him. I tried their fall season flavor that was a apple cider sherbet, but wasn't a big fan so I went with my original, chocolate brownie. We want to try Molly Moon's and Full Tilt next time we are in town.
Day 2:
Neighborhood Walk: The neighborhoods are beautiful in Seattle. We went on a walk throughout the neighborhood, into a park area, and then through the little down town of the island. There are so many walking paths that are so pretty. There are some good hills to get your heart pumping too.
Breakfast: Both mornings my husbands parents cooked breakfast. Let's just say we have got to step up our making breakfast game at home. The meals were so good. They made homemade biscuits, eggs, sausages, broccoli and grits for the first morning. I have craved this breakfast every day since we had it!
Pike Place Market: We headed off to Pike Place Market which we stayed at for about two hours. We got there around 11 and it was already very busy. I didn't think the crowds made a big difference for the sight seeing other than the lines to get food were a little bit of a wait. We walked up and down the market a couple of times. The Market sign in the middle of the market was so cool and really was worth stopping just for that. Here are a few things we tried for food and where we went during our stop at Pike Place Market.
Daily Dozen: The yummiest donuts ever are at Daily Dozen. They have hot fresh donuts that have cinnamon and sugar on them or you can get a cold donut with frostings like maple, chocolate, maple bacon and then a powder sugar version. We tried the maple and the cinnamon and sugar which are both good, but if you like hot donuts then go with the cinnamon and sugar.
Pike Place Fish Co: Make sure to stop by the fish market to watch them throw the fish back and forth. They do it every so often so we got to see them do it a few times while we were there. It's pretty fun to watch.
World Famous Organic Apple Cider: My husband wanted a cold drink so we stopped by the little apple cider tent but they did have a few locations set up throughout the market. They let you try all of them before picking which one you want to get. I liked the peach apple cider the best, but my husband liked the strawberry apple cider.
The Original Starbucks: This is the original Starbucks which is right in the middle of Pike Place Market. The building is old and has a lot of character. There is the original Starbucks logo on the window which was very revealing of the siren, so it's probably a good thing they updated their logo. The line never went down the whole time we were there, so we didn't go inside but we did peak through the door while we got a picture with the logo.
Rachel's Ginger Beer: This was a first for me trying ginger beer. I actually really liked it. I got the Raspberry and peach flavor which ended up not having a very strong ginger beer flavor which I was glad of. My husband got the Blood Orange Ginger Beer which had less flavor and more ginger beer flavor which was a little too strong for me. It is a carbonated drink which made it a little more tasty. I would go back for sure!
Flowers: You can't go to the market without getting a bouquet of flowers. They have beautiful bouquets and are all for a really good price. I loved walking the market looking at them all and then my husband bought a bouquet for his grandma so we got to enjoy them for a bit.
Waterfront: Right by the market is the waterfront area. you can go over to the pier or stay at the market and still see the water. We did both. There is a lookout spot where you can see the cruise ships, Farris wheel, and the water. Then if you walk over to the pier there are lots of food spots, the Aquarium, and where some of the water ferries leave from. It was a beautiful day when we were there so lots of people at the pier.
Gum Wall: The gum wall is right in the Market. If you google where the wall is it will take you inside some of the building at the market, but if you look around they have signs telling you where the wall is located from there. You go through the doors from inside the market or come around the corner from the outside, both way are so cool. You just see gum along the whole alley way from bottom to pretty high up the walls. It seemed weird but also so very cool. We chewed our gum and stuck ours on the wall too. It was definitely a you have to do once type of thing.
Space Needle: You are able to go up to the top of the Space Needle, but it is also very cool to just go to the grounds to see it. We didn't end up going up to the top, but we did get pictures close by and was able to spot it throughout the cities near by. It is a very neat sight to see.
Amazon Spheres: We stopped by the Amazon Spheres which weren't open when we went. You are able to walk around the outside and since it is all glass you can see the inside quite well. There are tons of plants and walk ways through the building. The grounds have chairs and turf to sit on which is what a lot of people were doing while we were there. It was fun to see.
Cakes of Paradise Bakery: While we were headed to Franz Chocolates we passed by a bakery which has a rainbow cake that Greg's parents really like. We stopped and grabbed one to try. The cake was moist and flavorful. It had strawberry, lime and orange cake layers with a Guava, Passionfruit and lime gelatin type frosting along with whipped cream. I really liked the pink and green colors the best since the orange was a little tart. I have never had anything like it though and thought it was a fun treat. The bakery had tons of cakes to pick from if that isn't your type of flavors.
Fran's Chocolates: If you want to feel fancy for a quick second then Franz is the spot for you. When you walk through the doors it opens up to this big open area with beautiful old brick walls, a spiral staircase, displays of chocolates, and then the little chocolate counter with all the candies. They do give you a free sample. They have pre made boxes or you can pick from the candy counter. We made our own box which was so yummy. They are known for their salted caramels which are Smoked salt and gray salts. These are very delicate chocolates which are a bit pricey, but the experience is worth it and the chocolates are to die for.
Deep Sea Sugar And Salt: This is a cute little shop that sales cakes by the slices. They do tend to sell out quickly so if you want a lot of options then go early. I got a slice of the Chocolate Caramel Cake which was so good. The cake was perfectly moist with a layer of caramel and white frosting. It was one of the best cakes I have had.
Moto Pizza: Here is another unique thing in Seattle. Moto Pizza is sold out for months so the only way to get one is to get a reservation for months out from now or you walk up to see if there are extra pizzas. They can sell out as fast as opening with a line or they said sometimes a couple of hours. It's a weird concept but hey they sale their pizzas quickly and the hype for the place is up there. We got the "All In" pizza which had onions, mushrooms, sausage, pepperoni, peppers and on top was cold pizza sauce. It was very unique and I can see why their pizza is so popular. It was delicious.
Alki Beach: Alki Beach is located in West Seattle which is about twenty-five minutes from Seattle. There is a walkway along the beach side for quite a while. We were able to sit on the ledge and watch the water. There is a sandy beach with logs to sit on as well. If you head back towards Seattle on the main road next to the beach you will get a perfect view of the whole city scape of downtown. It was a beautiful area.
Seattle Temple: On our way to get dinner we saw the top part of the Seattle Temple. It was located in a good area where there were food options and some shopping in the area. You can see it off of the freeway a little bit as well.
Teriyaki & More: We wanted Teriyaki for dinner, but the restaurant we were thinking was too far away so we all tried a new spot. It was Teriyaki & More located in Bellevue. The amount of food you get there is crazy. We should of shared our plates. I got the Yakisoba noodles with chicken and my husband got the Teriyaki chicken. The food was steaming when we got them and tasted fresh and good. I was bummed I didn't have time to eat my leftovers.
Market Place Mall: While we were in Bellevue we stopped by their mall. It had a Panera Bread there and lots of food options. We went to the Nike store and found some good sales. The area is pretty small, but there are some good spots there. They also have a Target right there.
Day 3:
Breakfast: Another yummy breakfast cooked by my husbands parents. We had bacon, french toast, and eggs. Their style of cooking is so good!
Seward Park: There is a free park to go walk around in Southeast Seattle. There is a 2.4 mile loop around a area of trees where you can hike through or walk the loop by the water. There are big trees, open spots to see the water, a view of downtown, and a park for the kids. I really enjoyed the area. It is just peaceful to be by the water.
Starbucks Reserve: There are two Reserves in Seattle. The one we went to was located at the head quarters building of Starbucks. There wasn't too many options at the reserve for non coffee drinkers, but if you like coffee then there are a few unique options. They don't have a full Starbucks menu which surprised me, but they are more there for the rare coffee beans and how they make their drinks. They also have food options like pastries, pizza's and sandwiches. We heard the other location is a little bit better with their food options, but it was neat to see the building and experience it.
Bakery Nouveau: The greatest Twice Baked Almond Croissant is at Bakery Nouveau. We got there right when a fresh batch came out of the oven so they were fresh and hot. The croissant is flakey and creamy with the almond toppings. The top comes with a crispy cluster of almonds. The bakery had tons of dessert options as well.
Family Time: We went back to the house for wings for lunch and to watch a little bit of the Seattle Seahawks game which was at home. We drove past the stadium a few times so that was neat knowing they were playing right there. We had some good family time and then had to head back to the airport.
We were able to pack so many fun things into our three day trip in Seattle. The City is beautiful, the hussle and bustle was just fine, and it was really fun seeing how my husbands parents live in Seattle.
What things did we miss in Seattle that you like to do and eat?
