My husband and I were looking for a home to rent in 2019 when we found the cottage. It had been built on the show "Extreme Makeover" in 2011 for a sweet little family who was going through some tough life situations. There is the main house, which is beautiful and so neat, along with a little income cottage on the side of the home. We were so lucky with how we found the home for rent and how it all played out. I want to remember this house forever!
The cottage was an open area divided by a wall of storage to split up the areas. The front door walked into our little front room area. To the side of that was a little space for our table and the kitchen. We only had a little bit of countertops, but the cabinets had so much storage. Towards the back of the house was our room behind the wall of storage cabinets, which were our closets. There was a stackable laundry closet and then the bathroom. The space was little, but we didn't have much so it was perfect for us.
The finishes on the house were my favorite. We had real hard wood floors. The curtains were heavy duty and beautiful. The walls were yellow and a blue color which kept it light and airy in the house. We loved the way the outside looked and just felt like we lived in such a cute house. This has been my favorite house to just sit and enjoy my surroundings the most. Christmas was so magical with our little tree in the front room. Such good memories there.
We lived walking distance to Daybreak lake. It was the coolest thing! I would go on runs around the lake, we walked a lot, and there was fun activities to do near the lake. We had a favorite rock to go sit on to see the city views and get in a little exercise. You could rent out kayaks on the lake, food trucks every week during the summer, and the fitness center was close by which was included with living there.
Daybreak has a good amount of food areas close by. We found a lot of new options that we loved. The best cinnamon roll was from Village Baker. Duck Donuts opened up while we were there and that ended up being our addiction for a little while. We shopped at the Costco on the corner weekly and grabbed a Roxberry smoothie at least once a week. We fell in love with Texas Roadhouse Caesar salads and later found them at Costco and made them weekly at home.
There were a handful of fun memories in this home. We made a full on Thanksgiving dinner for us in that little kitchen. It was one of my favorite memories. There is a little bridge over the lake where people put little locks on like the "Love Lock Bridge." We got to add ours to it when we first moved there. I was able to go to the temple whenever I wanted since it was right by us. We had an at home hotel date for our anniversary during 2020.
It was such a neat experience living in the home knowing it was built for such a special purpose and it was a really cool opportunity. I am grateful for the time we had there and for the lessons we learned in that home. We had a lot of good laughs, some scary worldly moments, tough days, and some of our best days in that home.
