Best Sweets in Kentucky!

I was surprised at how many sweet shops there are in Kentucky! That was the first thing on my list to find after moving to our new home. There are some unique places to pick from, but all have had awesome storefronts and yummy desserts! Here are the spots I have found so far for the four months I have been in Kentucky. I am sure there are tons more to try, but this is a start!

Nord's Bakery (Louisville, KY)

This bakery was the first bakery I went to in Kentucky, so maybe the sentimental vibes got me on this one, but I really do think they have the best donuts in Kentucky... There might be a close second on this list, though. Nord's is a cute little bakery with donuts and the cutest cookies. I got both. Donuts in Kentucky sell out so early in the mornings, so make sure to get to this one early. I didn't get there too early so not as many options. My favorite was the vanilla frosted, frosting filled donut. It was the best dough I have tasted and so yummy with a filling. I have to fight the urge to drive there every single day right now.

Hadorn's Bakery (Bardstown, KY)

I felt like this bakery was just a cute small town feel kind of place. The donuts are all a good size and they have a lot to chose from. Earlier is better for the selections at donuts shops and this one is true to that, as well. They have the donuts called Yum Yums at this location which is a glazed pretzel donut with chocolate drizzle. It is yummy so I see why it's named that. I really like the twisted glazed cinnamon donuts from here. We got the donut holes which are so fluffy and good! I picked up a cinnamon roll from there and really enjoyed it. You can't go wrong with any of the options from Hadorn's!

Please and Thank You (Mark, Frank, & River locations in Louisville & Prospect, KY)

The best cookie in Kentucky is what I have heard, so of course I had to try it. The cookie is a chocolate chip cookie with a little bit of saltiness. I actually really enjoyed this cookie. I may have gone two days in a row for a cookie before lunch time. The hot chocolate from there is really good. My husband liked the honey coffee that he got from there, too.

Comfy Cow (Multiple locations in Louisville, KY)

Now this is an ice cream place I will be visiting often. They have lots of flavors of ice cream to pick from, as well as waffle cones and cups. They have chocolate covered bananas and pies along with the ice cream options. I got the Pralines and Cream with a scoop of Peanut Butter Chocolate. The ice cream is creamy and has such good flavor. The pralines were little baby pieces instead of them whole which I loved! The plus is the storefronts are all adorable along with delicious treats.

Quills Coffee (Louisville and a few other locations)

The hot chocolate at Quills was so fancy and tasted like real chocolate melted in the cup. They serve it just like a coffee with the little foam design. They do have lots of drink options if you don't want hot chocolate. My husband loves the bourbon caramel syrup that they use. Quills does have a few bakery items to buy, as well. The stores are all so different, hip, and unique.

Steak 'N Shake Milk Shakes (Multiple locations in KY)

I love getting Steak 'N Shake for a dinner and dessert. If you go in the restaurant they serve their milk shakes in glass cups with a good dollop of whipped cream. Their to-go cups are good, too. I have tried the chocolate and strawberry shakes, but they do have a lot of other flavors. The app that they have offers free milk shakes all the time, so keep a look out for those.

Sugar & Spice Donut Shop (Fern Creek, KY)

I saw the hype about this spot on other people's blogs, but I didn't believe it until I went! They had very few options left at 9 a.m. the day I went. The one's I did pick were so yummy though so it worked out. I tried a vanilla filled donut which was my favorite, a banana crème pie and a maple bar. The dough is so good. It is soft, fluffy, but isn't like another donut dough I have tried. My husband said the apple fritter was the best he has had. I will be going back right when they open to get our favorite flavors!

Derby Pie (Kroger, Sam's Club, Walmart, & Costco KY locations)

We got our first Derby Pie on the day of the Derby and from Kroger. It is the actual name brand maker that has patented the Derby Pie name from anyone else using it. It can be frozen, refrigerated, or left out at room temperature. We put ours in the oven for about 10 minutes to eat it warm. The topping is a little crisp and has a good crunch from the pecans with little hints of chocolate chips throughout. I was impressed with how well the flavors went together. It isn't my all time favorite dessert, but for a Kentucky sweets blog it is a must try. I will be getting a pie for all of our visitors so they can have that experience, too!

Peanut Butter Candy Cookies (Aldi grocery stores)

I bought these Reese's Pieces Peanut Butter cookies from Aldi my last shopping trip and oh man, I fell in love. The cookies are soft and have a yummy piece of the peanut butter pieces candy in them. They are sweet, but not too strong. The peanut butter cookie itself was probably the best peanut cookie I have had. I will for sure be getting these weekly!

Thompson's Food Mart: (Bardstown, KY)

The weirdest find in a gas station, but the best find ever! I had this recommended to me so I don't know if I would of every had this experience without that. They have multiple ice cream machines with different homemade flavors of soft serve ice cream. I got the banana and Reese's Peanut Butter Cup flavors in a twisted cone. You are able to do bowls, cups, or waffle cones with a few candies for topping. It was so good. I loved the banana and crave it every second now. This is a must if you are in the area.

The Peach Cobbler Factory (a few locations in KY)

There are a few locations in Kentucky. The little factory is really a storefront with lots of different cobbler options. They have cobblers, bread puddings, ice cream and shakes. Some locations have cookies, too. There are twelve flavors to choose from. I got the Caramel Apple cobbler with ice cream on the side. My husband tried the Peach Cobbler. I liked the apple one better, but my husband liked the peach one. They come in little bowls with an option of ice cream on top or the side. I thought this was a very neat and different treat spot. It was fun to switch it up. I did feel like the price was a little pricey for it, but they offer so much that it makes sense of the cost.

Muth's Candies (Louisville, KY)

Muth's Candies is a cute little old time candy store. There are lots of chocolates to chose from. They are known for the Majeska's and the Bourbon Balls. I tried the Majeska's with just caramel coating and then ones with chocolate coating. They were both super good. I did like the chocolate coated ones the best, if I had to chose one. My husband got their chocolate turtles and said they were really good, too. I plan to take every guest that visits us to this candy shop!

Amazin' Glazin' Donuts (Elizabethtown, KY)

Kentucky really does have some really good donut shops. Amazin' Glazin' was another hit for donuts. Do go early to this place, they sell out early almost everyday. We got a half a dozen to try and liked all the ones we got. I really liked their maple frosting. The glazed was good, too. My husband liked the apple fritter and cinnamon sugar donuts. The location is really cute and simple, just all about donuts.

A Sweet Retreat (Elizabethtown, KY)

The first thing my husband said when he ate his cookie off of his cupcake was, "I think we found our new cookie spot!" I am happy to report that this very well maybe our go-to from now on. The little bakery is adorable, clean, and well displayed. The cupcakes are gorgeous and taste delicious. The only down side I found was that they put our cupcakes in a paper bag so mine got a little smooshed, but it still tasted good! The prices are reasonable and they had deals  if you bought a dozen.

Insomnia Cookies (Louisville & a few other locations in KY)

If you are looking for the softest cookie and the most options all at once, Insomnia Cookies is the place for you! I was in shock that they served every single cookie on the menu all in the same day. I am use to only a handful of options per week, but they go above and beyond at this cookie shop. I got the chocolate chip to try, M&M and a peanut butter chip cookie. All three, I would get again! My husband got all snickerdoodles and ate them up. The storefront is cute, the cookies are good, over all it was a great experience.

Ehrlers Ice Cream (Louisville, KY)

There is a cute little ice cream shop right on Whiskey Row in downtown Louisville. They have a few ice cream flavors to pick from, but they are known for their waffle cones and cookies. You can get a ice cream cookie sandwich that looks way good. I just got a chocolate covered waffle cone with Pralines and Cream ice cream. It was good, but wasn't somewhere I would go all the time. It is the only ice cream along main street right there though so if you want ice cream they have ya covered.

Crumbl Cookie (A few locations in KY)

To our happy surprise, Kentucky has a Crumbl Cookie!!! It took us right back to our Utah days picking up a box of cookies. I check the webpage each week to see the new flavors. My favorite cookies are the Cookie Dough, Chocolate Chip, Sugar, Buckeye Brownies, and Chocolate Cake. My husband loves the Churro without the frosting and the Snickerdoodle, which are probably the same cookies. Make sure to sign up for their rewards so you can get free cookies!

North Lime Coffee and Donuts (Louisville & Lexington, KY)

I loved this spot in town. They have lots of drink options and donuts, too! We went this fall so I got my first pumpkin steamer of the season and really enjoyed it. I got their square glazed donut and loved it. It had a yeast flavor to it and was soft with a good crispy outside. My husband said this might be a new favorite coffee shop for him. We will definitely be going back!
