Grocery Stores in Kentucky!

Kentucky has the best grocery store options! I have been so impressed with all the different grocery stores. There are some that I go to way more often than others, but they all are great for different reasons. Most of these on the list weren't in Utah so they are new to me! Here are all the in's and out's of Kentucky grocery stores.

Aldi

I have fallen in love with Aldi! They have the best prices, unique things, and lots of fun decor. They have the cheapest groceries I have found in Kentucky. If I had to pick only one to shop at from this list it would be Aldi! They some staples that are always there and then there are a lot of rotating foods and items. The holidays were so fun to shop at Aldi to see what new treats and home decor they had.

My top things I pick up at Aldi are the chocolates, sauces, fruits, vegetables, Almond milk and the home decor. They have a great selection of Moser Roth, Choceur chocolates and Schogetten German chocolates. Our favorite chocolate covered sea salt caramels are from there. We have our favorite Teriyaki sauce we buy there. They have the cheapest almond milk prices around town and it's actually really good! The fruit and veggies are the best priced and they always have great options.

Let's talk about the Aisle of Shame at Aldi. It is so addicting! It always has new items coming in and the stock goes so fast. If you don't go the day you hear it comes out it is most likely slim pickings by then. I found during the holiday season things go so fast! I have found a lot of awesome items like a flower pot for our plant we had for months before getting it planted. I got some eye shadow from there that I absolutely love. We have grabbed their kids snow boots, art supplies, our roasting pan for our turkey and all the seasonal treats! It is the best!

Don't forget your Aldi quarter when you go! I have a special spot in my purse for mine! The carts are locked until you put a quarter in. It is just iconic for Aldi. We bought a bunch of reusable Adli bags our first trip after we moved. I have found if you do self checkout you can just add your items to the bags right then instead of loading the bags at the counter. Either way works though!

Meijer

Our new favorite grocery slash anything and everything store! They have everything there from food to workout items, to clothes, to home decor and so much more. The store is so big! We didn't know where to start. We have found that they have really good sales on items and they have a lot of weird items that you can't find at other stores. They have great sales racks for their clothing and lots of cute home decorations. This store would take a whole day to walk every isle and see all they have to offer.

I have been looking for a type of sugar for quite some time for waffles and found it there! The sales on their food were awesome. We found some food items way cheap there compared to our normal grocery store. They have all the brands and flavors of anything you are looking for. The isles literally go on forever full of food. We tried their donuts from the bakery which weren't too bad. They had a lot of yummy looking items in the bakery.

My husband compared their house decor section to a Gordmans or a HomeGoods. We did not know where to start walking in the store. They have a great toy section, workout items, home decor, outdoor items, plants, the list goes on and on. I was super impressed with their clothing section too. They had sales all over the store.

Trader Joe's

Forever my favorite grocery store. Trader Joe's just makes me happy to walk through even if I don't need anything. The vibe has been the same in every state I have been to one in. The employees are always so kind and helpful. The selections of food are awesome. I would walk every isle every day if I could! I did live about ten minutes away from one in one of our houses and had to limit my visits. It's just so fun there.

Holiday's at Trader Joe's are the best! It is not the fall season until I walk into a Trader Joe's with all their pumpkin flavored treats! Christmas is really fun there too! I have lots of favorite treats for the different seasons of the year at Trader Joes. February you have to get the heart shaped Macrons or the X's and O's gummy candies. March is the Belgium Chocolate Crepe cookies. The summer we always get the Veggie chips, Acai packets, Honey Wheat Pretzels, Hold the Cones, and fresh lemonades. Fall season is all about the pumpkin spice cookies, Apple Cider, Pumpkin Joe Joe's and the Spooky Bats and Cat's gummies. Christmas time calls for the mint cookie stars, Gingerbread cookie sandwiches, peppermint chocolate covered pretzels, and the Jingle Jangle.

I do have to say Trader Joe's has the best snack options. They have great chip and cracker options like the honey wheat pretzels, White Cheddar puffs, Veggie chips, and Kettle corn popcorn. Their treats are always fun to try. My husband loves their drink selection of fresh lemonades and limeade. We have gotten their sparkling juice for holidays.

My rule for Trader Joe's is I have to get something new every time I go to the store. They have so many unique and fun items that I know I am missing some great ones. After lots of years of shopping at Trader Joe's there is still so many things to try. They have cute little reusable bags to buy there too. The cards are adorable and super cheap. I like their breath mints at the checkout stand. They even have great beauty products. I love their pumpkin face mask and body butter. They have a great hair mask and rose water spray. It never hurts to try it that's what I say!

Publix

Publix is super new to me! I have seen it on shop with me hauls and that is about it. We went to Georgia for Christmas this last year and I went to my first Publix. It reminded me of a Harmons or Alberton's from Utah. The first of the year we found out Kentucky just opened a Publix! Yes, please! I felt like it is a higher end grocery store, but still affordable on their items.

We shopped for Christmas Eve dinner at Publix in Georgia. We bought chicken, fresh herbs, juice, some veggies which were all fresh and great. I don't feel like their prices are the best in town, so I don't think we will be regulars for grocery shopping. I have heard the deli sandwiches are the best, so that is on my list to try from Publix!

Save-A-Lot

This is probably my least favorite grocery store option in Kentucky, but it is a new store to me. My husband thought this would be my go-to for grocery shopping. I felt like the groceries weren't priced that great and the stores seem a little bit more run down. They have great selections and some brands I had never seen before.

We have gone for their knock off brand of Girl Scout Cookies. They have the coconut, caramel and chocolate cookies that taste even better than the real ones. They also had the mint cookies that were super good too! I don't mind going their for those kinds of treats, but the groceries I haven't been to into.

Our store by our house has a shopping cart on the roof. Every season they add a new person pushing the cart. It has been one of my favorite things driving by the store to see what the new shopper is. For Halloween their was a witch, Santa for Christmas and Cupid for Valentine's day. It makes me want to shop there just to support them doing that! They do have quite a few of these stores around Kentucky so maybe I just need to try another location or something!

Kroger

My husband and I's first trip to Kentucky we stopped by a Kroger to buy banana's so we could test out the new grocery store in town. It is one of my favorite memories. There were so many random things that happened in our five minute grocery shopping experience. I really got to see Kentucky culture that day!

Kroger and I have become good friends here in Kentucky. It is the closest store to my house and we've gotten a lot of great deals with their ads. You do earn money off of gas when you shop there. We have gotten some super cheap gas compared to other gas stations in our area. I do like that they have different sales through the months which allows me to try new items.

I have loved that we can buy Big Red and Al8-1 here. They have all the flavors and sales on them quite often at Kroger. I found a local pizza dough that we like using to make homemade pizzas from there. They also have a local chocolate milk that is my absolute favorite. If you buy things on sale then it's a great place to shop.

My Wednesday routine is looking at the new ads and adding all the coupons on the app. It makes me feel like an adult, but I enjoy it! If you save your receipts there are coupons on the back for food places nearby. We have fallen in love with Lee's chicken because of the coupons on there.

Costco

There are only four Costco's in Kentucky! Lucky for us two of them are within forty-five minutes for us! We have found some really good snacks at our Costco, but we have noticed we don't get a lot of the same things as other states do. Our Utah favorites aren't at our Costco's now which is a bummer! We still love Costco though!

We were here in Kentucky when the churro sadly disappeared for good and was replaced by a crispy chocolate chip cookie. I wasn't a fan, but I should try it again to make sure! We have found a lot of favorite snacks this year at our Kentucky Costco. They carry Derby Pie here, Al8-1 in cases, and most of our old favorites from Utah's Costco.

We have been to three of the four locations in Kentucky and they all are about the same! My best piece of advice for Costco is to send your husband to the store. He picks up things I would never pick up to try and then we end up loving them! We found some pizza boats, pumpkin madeleines, apple cider donuts, healthy granola bars and salted caramel chocolates that we buy way too often! It's been fun trying all the new things.

The fruit has been awesome all year long this year in Kentucky. We have had really good luck with the fruits and veggies. We also have bought a lot of items for our new house from Costco. We got a couch that we have loved. It is durable, looks brand new still and works in a lot of different ways in our house. We bought some curtains from there that were perfect for our larger windows. They have great options if you are looking for house items.

Walmart

We all know about Walmart, but Kentucky has their Dollar Spot! Utah hadn't gotten them yet so I was so excited to see that they have them here. I found some of my Christmas decorations from there this year. I make sure to take a look anytime I go to Walmart. They have great little decor pieces, kids activities, holiday items and kitchen items. Our location has a really good sale isle too! They have the cheapest Al8-1 drinks at Walmart and they have Derby Pie. We have even found some Kentucky t-shirts in their clothing section.
