Hamilton on Broadway

I highly recommend going to a Broadway show while in New York. My husband and I went to New York to visit family and had the opportunity to go to Hamilton on Broadway. We really enjoyed it! The version on Disney Plus is super neat, but in person was even better! The vibe of the theater, community of people in the theater and the excitement in the air makes this such a great experience.

When buying your tickets, check around on different sites. We watched them for a few weeks and days to see what the best prices were. Today Tix is a great site to get tickets on. It was easy to use and had pretty good prices. We also used Shubert.nyc telecharge website that saved us about twenty bucks! The theater really doesn't have bad seats in the house. We chose to pick seats as close to the front as possible, but on the side. There are ticket prices for all different price ranges.

Dressing up isn't a requirement, but it is definitely more fun! We didn't see anybody over the top dressed up, but majority were business casual type outfits. The theater is really fancy feeling so I was glad we dressed up a bit more. The theater did allow for bags and items to be brought in, but they do search bags at the door.

There are merch items at the little souvenir shop and snacks and drinks available for purchase. We bought a water and the cashier said "a reasonable $5.00," which gave us a good laugh! It was definitely over priced, but it's Broadway and a theater! They had souvenir cups you could buy with sodas or alcohol as well!

When you get to the theater they have a line waiting for the doors to open. We had gotten there about a half hour early and the line was pretty long. Once the doors opened the line moved really quickly. In the line there is the iconic Hamilton sign and Richard Rogers Theater. There are great spots to get a picture of the sign with you in it if you'd like. When the line got moving there wasn't much time to get a close up of the sign with us in it, so I suggest to get one out of line before getting in line.

There are employees everywhere in the theater to show you where your seats are. You get a pamphlet that gives you all the performers names and has a bunch of other Broadway play options. There is one very important rule listed in the pamphlet: No singing along with the cast. We had a good laugh that it had to be written down for us to know. I could just image singing the wrong words in front of everyone trying to sing along. I was grateful for the rule!

We went right after they just got a new cast. We felt like there were some that were better than the Disney plus version and some that weren't too different from the show. They did a really good job at casting the new cast members and felt like the show flowed really well. You don't get to meet the cast afterwards or at least we didn't stay around long enough to. You aren't able to film at all, but you can take pictures before and after the show.

It is totally different being in person for the show. You get the laughter, clapping, tears and suspense all from those around you. It was so fun to clap after each song and scenes. One of my favorite parts was watching everyone's reactions walking into the theater. I feel like this is a bucket list item for a lot of people and something that not everyone will get to experience. You could tell that we all felt so lucky to be there and were in awe of the stage and architecture of the theater. I felt like a proud little mom of all the cast members at the end! The cheering and clapping was really fun to be apart of to support the cast members.

Since you are in New York and don't drive hardly anywhere the travel to and from the theater was so easy! We rode the subway and walked. It was so quick going that route compared to finding your car and fighting traffic. We did start off at Times Square since we got to the theater a little early. It was such a fun experience. It is all walkable and right in the same area. So easy to see so many things while in the same area as the theaters. After the show we went back to Times Square and got cupcakes at Mia's Bakery and walked to the Rockefeller Center, FAO Schwartz, Radio City were some of the spots we stopped at. The Magnolia Bakery is right there too! That is on our next time list!

I 100% would go back to a Broadway show! The performance was so well done and rehearsed. The feelings you get while you watch these talented performers, the music speaks to you and the vibes of the whole experience are just a have to experience in life if you can! We were very grateful for the opportunity and loved the whole thing! We have had the soundtrack on repeat since going to the show! It just brings so much joy and inspiration into your heart and life!

What theaters have you been to? Any performances you suggest for our next theater adventure?
