If you asked me what my favorite food was growing up I would say Burgers. I still love burgers, but do try a lot of new foods now when we are out and about. Every time I have gotten a burger in Kentucky I have been so impressed with them! There are a lot of different spots to get burgers and the french fries are so good too! Here are the best burgers and not so best, but a must have while in Kentucky!
Mussel & Burger Bar
Mussel & Burger Bar is located in downtown Louisville. The restaurant is super fancy with a bar type feel. I was hesitant to go and try their burgers knowing they were known for mussels and it being a bar, but I'm so glad we went! This is by far my most favorite burger I have ever had! I could eat this burger every single day and not get tired of it. The burger itself has really good flavor and was cooked to perfection. I got the mushroom burger that had cut up mushrooms with Boursin cheese. It was so good! We really liked their french fries too!
Steak 'N Shake
This is my favorite fast food restaurant for burgers! Steak 'N Shake has smashed burger patties that are seasoned well and crispy! There are the best pickles that they put on them. You can have any toppings added and multiple patties if you'd like. We love their french fries and milkshakes as well.
I will say in the restaurant the food is way better! The french fries are crispier and the shakes come in glass containers. I prefer dining in at Steak 'N Shake, but we have gotten it to go plenty of times and it works too! This is one of our favorite places when we have visitors. It is great value for a low cost. I like their rewards on the app too!
Bardstown Burgers
This is a little restaurant located on Main street in downtown Bardstown. The storefront is super cute and simple. The menu here is pretty simple, but great options and pretty descent on prices. I got the Bardstown Burger which is bacon, cheese, mushrooms, mayo and onions. I just asked for no onions. The bun was so soft and buttery and the burger patty was cooked perfectly! I really enjoyed the bacon with mushrooms which was a new pairing for me. The best part of the meal was the seasoned crinkle cut french fries though!
Freddy's
We had a Freddy's in Utah too, so we were happy to find a familiar restaurant in our new town! If you don't have a Steak N' Shake near by then this might just be the next best spot. They are very similar other than prices! The burgers have a really good crisp and flavor with pickles too. The french fries are so good here! These are a great fast food style burger. I don't love the prices here, it is a little pricey for a fast food spot! We don't go here often because of that, but the food is really good.
Smashburger
This was my absolute favorite burger spot for the longest time. It has gone down hill a little bit now that it is an older food spot. We have found a descent location still in Kentucky so that was fun! The smashed burger patty is so crispy and delicious. I love their regular buns on the burgers. The bacon avocado burger is the best! They have really good french fries with or without seasoning. I did go to the location in 4th Street Live that was not the best, so be aware of what locations you are going to.
Rally's
This is the worst burger you can ever have, but also the greatest! It really is not the best burger out of this list, but it is a Kentucky staple and has to be on your list at least once. We have Rally's here, but Checkers are the same restaurant. The burgers are so cheap and are just simple. The flavor of the patty is really good, but it is a little bit floppy where I prefer the crispy burgers. I do love their french fries though! My brothers loved the burgers here when they visited. Rally's has a french fry burger that they got and enjoyed.
White Castle
This is just like Rally's, it is not great, but you have to try it while in Kentucky! You see White Castle's in movies and tv shows and we don't have them in Utah. It was a try once type of place. It is true what you hear, the bread is soggy and it tastes like onions. We got the little burger sliders to just say we tried White Castle. This was another spot my brothers ended up really liking. It just must be a guy thing! My husband doesn't love them either though so maybe not! This is a hundred percent for a good laugh type of experience and not for the actual burgers!
Whataburger- In Nashville, Tennessee
I know, I said Kentucky... but there is a Whataburger only two hours away in Nashville, Tennessee. I had first had this in Texas when I was probably ten years old. We did a day trip to Tennessee and stopped here for lunch to reminisce the old days! The burgers are quite a good size and have good flavor. If you are driving through Tennessee this is a great stop. The french fries there are great too! Lot's of good options and it's a good price!
What are your favorite burger spots?
