Fall time in Kentucky is magical! The leaves turn the brightest oranges, reds and yellows. There are so many trees that the whole town is covered in color. There are old towns and the crisp fall air just set up the perfect fall vibe. I really enjoyed the fall season last year being in Kentucky. I love fall in general and any state I have been in during this season. There are lots of fall treats that are a must and lots of fun fall activities. Here are a list of my favorite thing to do and eat in the fall time.
Homemade Beignets
The second the weather starts getting chilly my mind goes straight to homemade beignets and hot chocolate! Football games are usually spent with me making the beignets and sitting on the couch with a plate full while the game is on. I just get the pizza premade dough from the refrigerated section, cut them into square, fry them in oil and then top them off with powdered sugar. It is a cheap, quick, and delicious fall time treat! I love the Mickey Mouse beignets from Disneyland too! I'm sure there are great beignet spots around if you don't want to make them at home!
Pumpkin Patch
My husband and I did this our first year married and have the fondest memories. We took silly pictures of all the funny pumpkins we found and some cute fall pictures in the patch too. There are so many cute pumpkin patches all over. I love having pumpkins on my front porch and of course ones to carve too! We haven't been to a pumpkin patch in Kentucky yet, but it is on my fall bucket list this year!
Fall Movies
I am a full on fall binge watching type of movie gal. Halloween Baking Championship, Hocus Pocus, any of the Disney movies related to fall time and of course Hallmark movies! I love the cute spooky movies and all the love stories with the fall vibes. We have a Hocus Pocus movie night every year with all my siblings and we love it! I watch all the movies on repeat all fall long.
Take Advantage of the Crisp Air
The best time to go on walks is during the fall season. It finally has cooled off from the summer heat and you get that little chill in the air. There are so many great walking places in Kentucky. There are lakes and forestry areas and the neighborhoods are perfect to walk in. We see a lot of wildlife out here so it's always fun to walk and see what we can find. The outdoor malls are a great place to go during this time of the year too!
Pumpkin Steamers
My absolute favorite thing during the fall is getting pumpkin steamers. It is the best tasting drink ever! I have found a ton of new spots in Kentucky and have all my favorite Utah places too! For some reason they just taste better from a coffee shop than making them at home. I haven't quite perfected the at home recipe yet! Getting up and going to a coffee shop in the crisp fall air is one of my favorite things to do!
Hot Chocolate
I would pick a Pumpkin Steamer over a hot chocolate all fall season long until mid November then I go for the flavored hot chocolates. Anytime we travel we always stop at a coffee shop and I always get a hot chocolate. I have found so many good flavors and places for hot chocolates. I love making them at home too! We have a frother for our milk and it makes it so fluffy and yummy!
Pumpkin Flavored treats
There are so many pumpkin flavored treats in Kentucky. I was shocked and loved every bite I tried. We went to a lot of different bakeries and places offering anything pumpkin flavored. My favorite were the pumpkin flavored Munchkins at Dunkin. There were a lot of yummy pumpkin flavored donuts and breads that we tried. The pumpkin shaped cookies were all so cute everywhere we found them too!
Homemade Treats
I love making fall treats! My sweet tooth is magnified during this time of the year! I love all things pumpkin, holiday themed, cute, and sweet. My family have the best Pumpkin Chocolate Chip cookie recipe that we make every year. Marshmallow popcorn, caramel apples, smores are all a fall staple! There are so many yummy recipes for fall treats! It is always fun to try new treats!
Sweet Potato Cupcakes
Our first ever sweet potato cupcake was from a bakery in Tennessee. I tried to make them at home and actually really enjoyed them! The flavors reminded me of fall so that will be a fall staple for us now! The cake is so moist from the sweet potatoes and it has really good flavor. We loved the one from the bakery but we don't live close so we are grateful for a homemade version to help satisfy our craving for it!
Pumpkin Pancakes
Must I say more than Pumpkin Pancakes. What a genius idea!!! They are the best breakfast food I have had. We got them at Wild Eggs here in Kentucky, but I am sure so many places make them. Ours came with a caramel sauce, candied pecans and whipped cream. Oh my mouth is watering just writing about these. I will be getting these every fall season.
Apple Cider Donuts
One of our favorite desserts are apple cider donuts. Aldi and Trader Joe's have great options if you aren't close to a barn that makes them. In Utah we travelled about and hour to get fresh made Apple Cider Donuts from a cute little barn store. I am sure there are places all over your state that make these! Even making them at home would be just fine too!
Hiking
The fall time is the best time to go out on hikes! The air is crisp and it just feels good after a long hot summer. The leaves changing colors make the scenery even more beautiful. It is a last hoorah of outdoor things before the winter gets here. I would suggest to go in the middle of the day on fall hikes so it isn't too chilly without the sun! We have more of nature walk type areas in Kentucky, but they are still beautiful and feed the soul! Any outdoor area's to go walk, hike, bike, drive through would all work!
Find a Festive Spot in your State
I love finding places that have cute decorations, activities and fall foods. In Utah we loved Gardner Village. It was decorated so cute for the fall season with witches and pumpkins. They had fall activities all season long. In Kentucky there is a Pumpkin Spooktacular where you walk through a park that have thousands of carved pumpkins all lit up at night. We haven't gone yet, but it is on my fall bucket list this year! There are usually fall festivals and activities happening all season long, find one near you and go have fun!
Caramel Apples
My mom had us make homemade caramel apples every fall season. I loved it, so I have carried on the tradition! We love the caramel apples at chocolate stores too! Either way they are just a yummy treat. There are a lot of fun ways to go about making caramel apples like a little caramel apple bar or cutting them into bite size pieces. It is always a fun thing to do with kids and family!
Apple Cider and Apple Cider Slushies
We love finding fresh Apple Cider during the fall. Most farm stores have their own fresh apple ciders or we have found a great option at Trader Joe's. If you are lucky they might have apple cider slushy floats which are my all time favorite! It comes with a soft serve ice cream and an apple cider slush. I really enjoyed having hot apple cider last fall as well! You can go apple picking this time of the year too!
Pie
I feel like pie in the fall time is just meant to be! There are so many fun pie places in Kentucky and in Utah! I am sure there are in others states as well. We love the pie's from Costco too! If you are in Kentucky the Derby Pie is a must! There is a place called Flake Pie Co in Utah that has the best individual pies. A fun fall outing could be to go find the best pie in your state!
Travel
We have travelled a few times during the fall season and it is one of the best times! You get to see other towns in their prime with the trees changing colors, the storefronts decorated in fall decor and of course new fall treats to try! Every state offers something different for the fall flavored items and it really is so fun to try! This fall we travelled and found the best pumpkin steamer made with oat milk and it has been on my mind since. Hiking this time of the year in other states is always a great way to see nature changing and turning into the fall vibes. Disneyland has been another one of my favorite places to visit during the fall time with all the fall decor and treats too! There are a lot of cool spooky locations to check out for Halloween as well like the witch house in Salem or the Hocus Pocus house! Plus, the weather is usually just right during the fall months!
