I love the holidays and I love my hubby so holiday dates are the perfect pair. We have a few traditions we do every Christmas and then we like trying new things too! There are a lot of cool things to go and see in the wintertime. The holidays just add an even more fun vibe to your date nights. I am all about the treats and festive type things and my husband is a good sport! Here are some of our favorite Christmas time dates.
Christmas Lights Date
We have some fun memories from our Christmas light date nights. When we lived in Salt Lake we would go to Temple Square to see the grounds full of lights. There was a really fun drive through light display in Kentucky this last year that we enjoyed too! Grab a hot chocolate and adventure out to your nearest display of Christmas lights. This can be a free activity if you find a public place where the lights are free to roam around with or you can pay for places like the Zoo or event center places that put on a light show. It is fun to bundle up in the cold weather and hold hands, but drive through displays are a bit more warm and fun too!
Hot Chocolate and Donuts Date
This was one of my favorite date's we did last Christmas in Kentucky. There are a couple of coffee shops that are also donut shops and then very strategic placing of a donut shop next to a coffee shop places too! There is a place called North Lime Coffee and Donuts that is quite the holiday vibe kind of place. They had their store all decked out for the holidays, the donuts had holiday theme decorations and of course the pumpkin hot chocolate options. We stopped in for a hot drink and donut on a cold December morning last year and loved it! We will for sure being getting the holiday donuts and drink again this year!
Trader Joe's Date
We have so many favorite Christmas Treats at Trader Joe's! It is tradition to stop by Trader Joe's during the Christmas season. My husband is always so cute about it too, he just knows that is a must for me every year! We will go walk around for the vibes of the store and for the treats! My favorite Christmas item is the Mint Chocolate star cookies. We always grab the new items to try too! We tend to grab a hot chocolate or lunch or something while we are out! It is just fun to spend time together!
Christmas Decoration Shopping Date
Our first year married we went and shopped for our Christmas tree and decorations. It was so much fun! We have tried to keep the tradition of going decoration shopping together each year. My goal is to get one new thing each year so we can build our collection! We go to the dollar spots at Target and Walmart, Hobby Lobby, At Home, and really any decor shop we can find! We blast the Christmas music when we set up the tree and make it something we look forward to every year! Anytime we are out and about we find a treat or lunch to make it even more fun of a date!
Chocolate Shop Date
Our longest standing tradition is going to See's Candies to get a box of chocolates. The store front just say holiday season to me. I don't know how this tradition started, but it is our favorite thing we do all season. My husband and I go and get a handpicked box to share all our favorite chocolates. How often do you go to a candy shop and do that? Us, hardly ever so it is a treat for sure! There usually is the hustle and bustle of the holiday shoppers which makes it even more fun! We did try our local chocolate store in Kentucky last year and it was just as much fun! Don't worry we went again in Utah to See's to our traditional spot too! Any chocolate store would work! Go get a box of chocolates for a date night!
Christmas Shopping Date
One of our favorite date activities during the Christmas season is to go gift shopping! We love the outlets, malls, and department stores for a shopping date. Kentucky has the Outlet Shoppes of the Bluegrass in Simpsonville that are really nice and have a great selection of stores. They have a big tree up in the middle of the shopping center and lots of little photo ops throughout the mall. Utah, we loved shopping at Fashion Place Mall, at The Outlets Park City or the Farmington Outlets. We still like to go to the physical store to shop for gifts so it is a fun time for us! Grab a Peppermint treat and go shopping!
Town Square Date
My husband and I went on a little date last Christmas season to check out a local downtown and town square. I had heard it was just like a Hallmark movie scene, so it was a must see! There are so many cute little towns in Kentucky and anywhere I am sure! Find a cool town square with a massive Christmas tree to take pictures by and walk the area for a fun date! A hot chocolate would go perfectly with this date! We do like finding the big Christmas tree displays in the city to get a picture with too! Walking the main street, stopping at the little shops, taking pictures, and maybe a bite to eat would make this the perfect Christmas style date.
Movie Date
It doesn't hurt to go on a movie date with your person during the holiday season! It is a nice warm place on a cold wintery day. My husband's favorite thing to do is go to the movie theaters! I love when there are holiday movies out for the holiday's. He probably doesn't love that so thankfully there are usually a Marvel or Star Wars movie out or something more fun for him to watch! We love the reclining chairs in the theaters now! Did you know, New York has theaters where you can dine and watch a movie?! They were pretty sold out when we were there or we would have given it a try! Popcorn, an Icee, hand holding and a movie; sounds like the perfect date to me!
Fun Center Date
My husband and I have gone to a couple of different fun center type dates! We have done miniature golf, played laser tag, arcade games, and have gone go carting. Boondocks is a great spot in Utah and Malibu Jacks is super fun in Kentucky! Dave and Buster's seems to be in a lot of states so that may be a good option! It just gets too cold during the winter season to be outdoors for too long, so indoor places are a great option to still get out and go on a date. It is fun changing up the scenery and challenging your spouse in a little bit of competition.
At Home Dates
Sometimes in the Christmas season it is better to have a quiet night at home for date night. It can get very busy with all the hustle and bustle this time of the year. We have had plenty of at home date nights that we have loved! It could be as simple as going on a walk in the neighborhood, making Christmas treats together, having a spa night, playing games together, doing a puzzle, cooking together, or wrapping Christmas gifts with each other. I like to make a sweet treat, sit by the Christmas tree with the lights on and watch a movie or football.
12 Dates Before Christmas
One Christmas I decided to do the "Twelve Dates Before Christmas." Every day we had a date together! It was actually really fun and it gave us a minute to focus on one another rather than the to do list for the holidays. We made candy count downs, had a spa night, went out for a Christmas treat, grabbed hot chocolate, went to the Christmas lights, but you really could do anything to count down the days until Christmas. You can check out those date ideas here: 12 Dates Before Christmas.
Christmas Eve Morning Breakfast Date
We started a tradition a couple year's ago where we have Christmas Eve breakfast! It makes the day go so much quicker and gives you something to look forward to that morning which just makes Christmas celebrations last even longer! We usually meet up with our family for this date! It is fun to be in a group too! There are so many yummy breakfast spots around, so find a cool breakfast or brunch spot and have a Christmas Eve morning breakfast date.
Christmas Concert Date
We went and saw David Archuleta one year around Christmas time and loved it! The Christmas vibes with the Christmas songs and the decor on stage was so fun! We grabbed dinner and went to the concert for our date which was perfect! There are so many shows and concerts this time of the year! A concert, a play, a show, the ballet, comedy show, any outing to see a performance would be so fun!
Nutcracker Ballet Date
I went on a girls date with my grandma, mom and sisters to the Nutcracker Ballet a few years ago. My mom had wanted to make memories instead of physical gifts that year and took us to the ballet. We got dressed up and watched the ballet at the Capitol Theatre in Utah. The theatre is beautiful and there is no bad seat in the house. The story line of the Nutcracker is just adorable and there was so much talent in the dancers. The costumes, scenes, dancers, and the audience just made it so neat! This may be a better girls group date, but maybe some husbands won't mind?!
Holiday Treat Date
A frequent date for my husband and I are to go on the hunt for festive desserts during the season. We have found so many yummy treat spots that have the cutest Christmas items! There are holiday themed donuts, cookies, cakes, brownies, ice cream flavors, hot drinks, candies, and so many more things. Check out blogs, social media, Youtube for all the fun, new, festive holiday items at places near you! A dessert date is one of my favorites!
