One of our favorite treats to find is cupcakes! Kentucky has great cake, cupcakes and cheesecake! Some of my favorite bakeries are where we have found these from! I am a frosting loving girl and have found some really yummy options while in Kentucky. Check out all the spots we have found some yummy cake here in Kentucky!
Sweet Retreat- If you only get to choose one cupcake bakery in Kentucky then this would be the one I would suggest! A Sweet Retreat is adorable, the flavors are fun, the cupcakes are delicious and it's a good price. We love this bakery. My go-to is the Vanilla Vacation flavor and my husband's favorite is the Snickerdoodle. They do have rotating flavors so we keep an eye out anytime they have the Snickerdoodle in the store. They have full cakes, cookies and brownies as well!
Big Nita's Cheesecake- Beware, you will get addicted to their cheesecakes! Our first time there was during the Christmas season, but they have changing flavors all year long. The storefront is a little smelly, so I was expecting it to not be good. I was wrong though! The cheesecake is so creamy, has a good cream cheese flavoring and they have a layer of cake in them. I got the Christmas Tree Cake Cheesecake and my husband tried the Coffee Cake Cheesecake. They have a lot of flavors to choose from and they change each week. The storefront is only open on Friday and Saturday's and they usually have a line out the door! We went on Friday afternoon and was able to walk right in, but we did run into a line on Saturday.
Plehn's Bakery- This isn't my favorite bakery, but the cake is really good! We went on Valentine's Day last year and found some super cute options. I got the vanilla cake covered in a chocolate frosting cake. The cake was old style type of cake, but that is what I liked about it. The frosting was a harder frosting and coated the cake perfectly. They had cakes, cookies, donuts and ice cream to pick from!
Homemade Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen- I really enjoyed Homemade Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen. They have cakes, pies and ice cream to pick from! We were on a hunt for the best carrot cake in Kentucky and I think this would be our first pick! The cake was super moist, the frosting was a good ratio, but we didn't love the pieces of carrots in the cake. This bakery is known for their upside down cupcakes covered in frosting as well! The ice cream is really good there too!
Gigi's Cupcakes- I had this bakery on my Tennessee list, but Kentucky has a location too! The bakery is super cute and inviting. They had a good variety of cupcakes to pick from. I got the Wedding Cake which is a vanilla cake with a buttercream frosting. All the cupcakes were super cute with sprinkles, cookies, nuts or little items to showcase the flavor like a smores topping or a birthday candle for the Birthday Surprise Flavor cupcake. This is one I will be back again and again for.
Publix Bakery- I was surprised at how good the cake is at Publix. They have slices of cake, whole cakes and cupcakes. Lots of different options! Anytime I watch a Publix shop with me video they always talk about the frosting from Publix. I now know why! It was the best frosting I have had! It is sweet and light all at the same time. The cake is moist and is a great little bite of cake. We have picked up the cupcakes a few different times and they always have different frosting colors to pick from! It is a fun treat!
Dricks Boutique Cupcakes- If you are looking for fancy cupcake spot then Dricks Boutique is the place to go! The store is adorable and really feels like a boutique. The cupcakes are displayed very cute and they have a good amount of options. I got the Celebration Cake. They put the cupcakes in a fancy box which made it feel like such a fancy stop. I want to try the Biscoff flavor but they did say that one sales out early! There is coffee, teas and hot chocolates to get as well!
Blu Bakery- I would say if you are needing a wedding cake then this would be the spot! It seems like that is the focus of the bakery, but they do sale cupcakes at the bakery. We got the strawberry and Biscoff cupcakes and thought they were good. My husband loved the Strawberry cupcake a lot! There is a cute little flower wall for a fun picture as well! This wouldn't be my first choice to go get cupcakes, but my husband did want seconds. It may be worth a try for yourself and then you can decide!
Cheesecake Factory Cheesecake- We do love our cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory! They have had some really good seasonal flavors this year! I love Smore's and the Pumpkin Pecan Cheesecake in the fall time! My husband loves the Turtle Cheesecake. The Peanut Butter chocolate cake is one of my absolute favorite chocolate cake options as well.
Graeter's Ice Cream Cake- We got an ice cake from Graeter's for my husband's birthday this year! It has been one of the best ice cream cakes we have found! We tried the Strawberry Shortcake ice cream cake. It came with yellow cake, strawberry ice cream sandwiched between and a whipped cream frosting. There were frozen strawberries on top. The whole bite was so creamy and melted in your mouth. I crave this cake now!
